Chaturbhuj Sthan Temple

Places of Interest In and Around Muzaffarpur

This is another one of the most sacred temples of Muzaffarpur. But more importantly it is probably the oldest temple amongst all the sacred temples of the region and Bihar state. This temple is as old as 600 years old, with its history dating back to medieval era of 12th century. And any reference to history of this temple would be incomplete without mentioning about local saint, with whose effort and perseverance such a grand temple came into being. It is widely believed that somewhere during 12th century an unknown local saint, who was devotee of Lord Shiva, got hold of a huge idol of Chaturbhuj in a small village, far off from Muzaffarpur. Under very extraordinary circumstances, he brought the idol to Muzaffarpur and placed it in a place besides idol of Lord Shiva. This is the same place where today the grand temple stands, which today has became one of the iconic religious places of Muzaffarpur district.

Baba Garibnath Temple

This is a beautiful Lord Shiva Temple that is located in the very heart of Muzaffarpur city. It is definitely one of the most loved and sacred temples of Muzaffarpur. And this is exactly why it is always thronged by devotees and is rarely ever free from crowd. Especially during Shravan Months (from July to August), Baba Garibnath Temple is literally filled with devotees and tourists. The temple is also pretty huge enough to accommodate huge crowd. The temple also underwent huge renovation few years back, which has restored beauty of its glorious years. If you’re religious person and devotee of Lord Shiva, then Baba Garibnath Temple will offer immense spiritual solace.

Shri Ram Temple

This famous Lord Rama Temple is located in small village of Sahu Pokhar. This historical and beautiful temple attracts thousands of devotee’s every day. In fact going by sheer number of devotees that come here, then it is easily one of the most visited temples of Muzaffarpur District. The temple is also very huge and accommodates many smaller temples dedicated to many Hindu gods. And amongst these many temples is a temple that has a special Shivlinga which is third largest in the whole of India. Needless to say, no visiting tourist can afford to miss this special temple.

Ramna Devi Mandir

This is unarguably one of the most beautiful temples of Muzaffarpur District. It is dedicated to Lord Durga Mata or Maa Durga. Although unlike other temples of Muzaffarpur it doesn’t boost any rich history as such, but what it does boost is aesthetic and architectural beauty. This temple’s construction was actually completed in year 1941 by a local businessman called Mr.Bachha babu. He was believed to be a loyal devotee of Durga Mata. But the most important thing is that this temple in matter of few decades it became one of the most sought after temples of Muzaffarpur and continues to be so even today. Its popularity in such short span of time is actually tribute to its architectural beauty. All in all, Ramna Devi Mandir is one of the must visit religious destinations of Muzaffarpur.

Ram Chandra Shahi Museum

This is probably the only Museum in entire Muzaffarpur. At least it is the only famous one. It has rich collections of artifacts and coins from ancient history. Although Museum isn’t really in good condition, but if you’re a history buff then you shouldn’t mind checking it out.
